She  was designed by Phillip Harle and built in 1982 by Aps Aubin, in NantesFrance, hull #21 of a 22 boat series of semi-custom, auxiliary sloops.  The hull has a raked bow, shallow under-body, fairly long fin keel with inset centerboard, separate spade rudder and reverse raked, heart shaped transom stern.  The hull sections have moderate dead-rise and easy round bilges.

The deck is arranged around an aft cockpit, short trunk cabin and an expansive foredeck.  Double lifelines, and jacklines with SS pulpits fore and aft guard the decks.  There is a hatch on the foredeck which houses anchor and anchor windlass.  Aft of the anchor locker is an emergency escape hatch.  There are two more emergency escape hatches forward of the mast and another forward on the trunk cabin.  The main companionway hatch is aft on the trunk cabin under the shelter of a dodger.

The cockpit has a central footwell with bench seats aft and on both sides.  The side seats have high coamings outboard.  There are hatches in the aft seat to access steering, propane tank and storage in the lazaret.  The propane is stored in a dedicated top-opening locker under the hatches with a vent  directly overboard.  Across the stern pulpit, within easy reach of the tiller, are arrayed a horseshoe buoy with retrieving line, a man overboard module and a life sling.  Mounted to the pulpit to port is an outboard motor for the shoreboat.

The mast steps on deck forward of the trunk cabin over the main saloon forward bulkhead and a teak compression post.  The mast is aluminum, oval in section and has double spreaders.  Stays lead to the ends, the shrouds to stainless steel (SS) chainplates inboard on the deck.  The chainplates bolt to the main saloon forward bulkhead.  There is a baby stay forward on the mast and runners aft.  The runners are rigged with three-part block and tackle to stiffen the windward side of the mast

The interior from forward has a forepeak locker followed by a chain locker and sail locker.  Aft to starboard of the sail locker is a teak panel oval door to a berthing cabin.  The cabin has stacked bunks outboard.  There are lee cloths for the bunks.  The holding tank is under the lower berth.  Aft in the cabin is another door to a short passageway.  To starboard along the passageway is a door to an enclosed head.

To starboard is a door to the master cabin.  The master cabin has a double berth forward, hanging locker outboard and chest of drawers aft.  The fuel tank is below the berth.  Next aft and one step up is the main saloon.  The galley is forward to port in the main saloon with sink, stove, ice box, counters and cupboards.  Across to port is the nav station with a seat facing a chart table and radios.  The DC electrical panel is outboard of the navigation station.  Between the nav station and galley is a ladder up to the companionway hatch and cockpit.  The auxiliary engine is boxed aft of the ladder.  There is a table built into the top of the engine box and a settee aft and on the sides of the table.  The water maker is under the starboard side of the settee.

The 'Dolly Parton' double head sail does a wonderful
job on long down wind legs and in winds up to 15-25 true can be easily handled by by the Sailomat 600  windvane steering system. This wind vane is an excellent piece of equipment and performs really well on all points of sail in very light to moderately heavy conditions. Although she is severely challenged in very heavy seas and going downwind

  1. Many people have been puzzled by 'Dolly Parton' It is a double headsail on one luff, made of heavy spinnaker cloth. It can be furled and deployed as a single headsail on a reach. Good for 20k downwind. Perfect for windvane steering as the boat is dragged not pushed.
